GSMA has released its Mobile Economy Report for 2020. There will be 610 million global new subscribers by 2025, and nearly two-thirds will be from the Asia Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa.   

Airbus plans to build the world’s first zero-emission commercial aircraft by 2035. It has unveiled three designs for the hydrogen-powered and zero-emission passenger planes.

Also, on the Big 5, Telkom has succeeded Cell C as the third-largest mobile operator in South Africa. Telkom became the fastest-growing mobile business mainly due to the COVID-19 lockdown. Its mobile data subscription services contributed 70% to this sudden growth. 

Just two months ago, Mono launched in Nigeria. The fintech startup has now raised a $500k pre-seed round. Its co-founders said they plan to build the “Plaid for Africa” and become the go-to financial data infrastructure API platform. 

Finally, in Zambia, Paratus has deployed a 100gig high-capacity metro fibre ring to increase bandwidth over an existing fibre network. This will aid businesses to transmit data at speeds of up to 1100Gbps.
