Let’s kick off today’s Big 5 with the news about the second attempt of the Nigerian lawmaker on social media regulating bill…. after the unsuccessful attempt to enact laws to regulate social media in 2017, the Nigerian Senate is making another attempts to regulate the Nigerian Internet space.

Also, Egypt is considering imposing a tax on advertisers  and this could possibly affect Facebook, Google, and other digital platforms…This according to some of Egypt’s parliamentarians, will help the country “protect the Egyptian advertising market.”

Meanwhile, in Zambia, MTN, Airtel and Zamtel have been fined a total of K12.6m by the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) for not adhering to the Quality of Service parameters set out in their guidelines from the last quarter (Q4 2017) and first quarter of 2018 (Q1 2018).

And in Kenya, Google is set to Provide Internet Coverage Through Project Loon in Kenya….  The Company is set to seal a deal with Kenyan telecommunications operators in order to deliver mobile internet coverage to remote locations through a network of cost-efficient floating balloons.
