New week, New grind, New Big 5

Today’s big 5 opener is about the just concluded World Cup which France defeated Croatia to take home the trophy. Well, we are not talking about the participated teams’ performances though, however, we are talking about how technology was deployed to see the success of the competition.

That being said. Let’s swiftly move to how Ghanaian Agri-tech start-up, Cowtribe won the Ghanaian leg of the Seedstars World competition, and will pitch for up to US$1 million in equity investment at the global final.

Meanwhile, MTN is testing zero-rating Facebook Messenger as its South Africa customers have reported that Facebook Messenger no longer uses mobile data.

Also in Zambia, The African Development Bank, AfDB has approved $50 million framework financing for small-scale renewable energy projects.

Nigerian based FinTech Incubator/Accelerator, The African Finance Foundry, is set to hold the second edition of the //Re: Code Nigeria Hackathon in July 2018 (themed “2018 Data Hack”).
