Netflix Finally Debuts its First Original African Animated Series

An animation project written by Malenga Mulendema has been selected by Netflix, to be the first animated series from Africa. The animation, titled “Mama K Super 4” is a story of four teenage girls from Lusaka who got recruited by a retired secret agent to save the world on a low budget. The project was co-produced by Triggerfish Animation Studios and London-based CAKE. We definitely look forward to the first original African animated story aired on Netflix. Read more


IMF and World Bank Launches Cryptocurrency Dubbed ‘Learning Coin’ to Study Blockchain Technology

In a move to properly study cryptocurrency, the International Monetary Fund and World Bank have launched a pseudo-currency called “Learning Coin”. The cryptocurrency is not a legal tender of exchange and does not have any monetary value. It will be restricted to only the employees to study the blockchain technology and to figure out how its assets can be translated into real-life processes. Who knows whether the World Bank would adopt this technology? Read more

SA’s Salt River High School Receives Computer Lab from Alumni

Salt River High School in Cape Town received a learning space for technology by an alumnus, Nadine Maselle. The pupils will be able to learn coding, robotics, programming, virtual reality and computer engineering in the learning space, called “Dream Lab”. Nadine was supported by Facebook Community Leadership Program and the Dream Factory Foundation. Read more


Call for Applications: Google Africa Certifications Scholarship for Developers

Applications are now open for the Google Africa Certification Scholarships. 100,000 developers from Africa will be trained and certified by Andela and Pluralsight. In addition to the training, thirty developers will receive 1000 grants and scholarship opportunities for Mobile Web, Associate Cloud Engineering and Google Associate Android certifications. Lambda and Paystack Are Set to Launch Online Coding School in Africa

Lambda School and Paystack are set to launch an online coding school for 10 students from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya and South Africa who want to study Software Engineering. The good news is that students can go through school without initial tuition deposit to pay back a percentage of their income when they get jobs. Google News Initiative Avails Funds to Change Conventional News Styles in MENA

Google recently established the Google News Initiative to strengthen journalism through technological innovations.
