OPay — Opera browser Nigeria-based fintech startup, has deepened its services offerings in the country’s most populous city Lagos. The fintech startup has launched OBus—an on-demand public bus hailing service.
The fintech startup which launched in 2016 to deepen financial services in Nigeria and Africa, has expanded its services in recent times across the transportation and food sector. The OBus service will be another icing on the cake for OPay.
The new service OBus—is a ride-hailing service that will be accessed via the OPay app, just like ORide and OTrike. The platform is a conventional bus that is more comfort-oriented. The service aims to boost cashless payments. It will come in-form of branded hummer buses that can ply the intrastate routes.
Commuters will be able to pay for their trips via QR-enabled OBus cards. The cards will be available for purchase at accredited OPay agents designated stop points. The card is available in different designations, of which N200 is the lowest that can be purchased.

The bus hailing startup will leverage a sensor reader in the buses to read the barcode on the OBus card. This is in a bid to ensure successful payment for a trip. Alternative payments can, however, be done via the OPay wallet.
OPay cuts across; Oride for bike hailing, OFood for food delivery, OTrike for tricycle hailing and OList for ads listing service.
