Guess what, Internet Solutions– an Internet services provider for public and private sector organizations has provided KES20 million to set up a Cyber Threat Intelligence Centre (CTIC) in Kenya. Companies will leverage this facility to monitor, analyze and fight cyber threats. African companies will leverage the CTIC to develop an active cyber resiliency and risk-based strategy, which will detect, prevent and respond to cyber-attacks within their IT surroundings. Fabulous!
Drum roll! Google revealed the list of the 12 selected startups for its fourth Launchpad Africa cohort. The startups’ cuts across six African countries; Nigeria (4), Kenya (3), South Africa (2), Ghana (1), Uganda (1) and Zimbabwe (1). The selected startups will receive working space, and access to expert advisers from Google, Silicon Valley, and Africa.
Next on the Big 5, Huawei is set to train Kenyan women in ICT through the Women In Technology Huawei (WITH) initiative. The goal of this initiative is to drive women inclusion in the ICT sector. Huawei Kenya will champion this project. Huawei will leverage WITH to get more women ripe for technical careers. Interesting right?
Also, Digemy, South Africa-based ed-tech startup has secured R1-million funding. This new investment from Green world Capital leaves the company’s valuation at R40-million. The company will leverage the new funds to expand the Digemy team, launch its Besmarta financial literacy platform, and also pursue entrepreneurial development.
Finally, Careem—an on-demand ride-hailing company that is popular in the MENA region, has deepened its services with a new feature that users will leverage to top-up their phones via the Careem app. This service will be available to riders across the UAE, Egypt, and Pakistan.
