Uganda-based on-demand motorcycle-hailing startup SafeBoda, which expanded to Lagos Nigeria in May 2019, has expanded to another city in the country. The startup began operations in Ibadan, Nigeria this week.

SafeBoda was founded in 2015, by Alastair Sussock, Maxime Dieudonne, and Ricky Rapa Thomson in Kampala, Uganda.

The startup raised an undisclosed Series B funding in May from digital investment firm, Allianz X and Indonesian ride-hailing company, GOJEK. The fund was used to foster its expansion plan to Nigeria and also add Fintech services for its drivers and users across the African markets.

A Tweet by Babajide Duroshola, the company’s country manager revealed that SafeBoda is looking to hire Operations Associates for the Ibadan office.

The Operations team will be responsible for ensuring SafeBoda’s growth in the Ibadan transport system. They will maintain and support the startup’s community of riders in the city.

This expansion increases SafeBoda’s coverage to 6 cities and 4 countries – Kampala (Uganda), Nairobi (Kenya), Lagos and Ibadan (Nigeria) and Barcelona (Spain).

SafeBoda will be the second bike-hailing startup to expand to Ibadan after Opera’s ORide came into Nigeria. ORide will pose as competition for SafeBoda in the city.
