Kenyan Farmers are set to predict the change in climatic conditions via a gaming platform dubbed Let It Rain. The Kenyan government launched it to enlighten farmers on ways to stay safe amidst adverse changes in climatic conditions.

‘Let it Play’ is a gaming platform developed by the Usiku gaming firm. The platform allows Farmers to predict when the rain will begin in their area.

Climate change has become a topical issue in the African continent. With countries like Kenya, Somalia, Uganda,  and Ethiopia having various natural disasters in recent times.

Climate change also took its toll on Kenya as the country experiences various flood cases and landslides recently. It was in a bid to severe this effect and manage the looming crisis that the ‘Let it Rain Challenge was born by mediae company.

The game seeks to make farmers predict the weather and gain viable information to survive in the face of climate change.

Mediae Kevin Gitau, the Program Director, noted that the idea of gamifying the weather is to attract and provide farmers with information that will improve their crop yields and help them manage their farmlands efficiently.

It will also help farmers understand the farming circle as they judiciously plant within this circle.

The ‘Let it rain challenge’ will hold in February 2020. The winner of the competition will receive a cash prize of up to 100000 shillings ($1000). Other farmers that participated in the challenge will also gain free access to iShamba, a farmer’s information service.
