14 North African Startups to Compete in MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competition

14 North African startups have attained the semifinal stage of the MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competitions. The startup will compete with 26 other semifinalists. 

Currently, in its 13th edition, the Arab Startup Competition (ASC) is a yearly competition initiated by the MIT Enterprise Forum to empower tech entrepreneurs. The competition also seeks to create a viable ecosystem that is filled with innovation and entrepreneurship. 

The competition categorizes entrepreneurs into Ideas, startups and social entrepreneurship tracks. The winning team gets $120,000 equity free fund. 

Also, the winning startups will get training, mentorship, coaching, media exposure, and great networking opportunities.

The Startups will be competing with other semifinalists. They will participate in a preparatory Bootcamp in Abdullah University of Science and Technology Saudi Arabi between the 1st and 3rd of March 2020.

The 14 selected startups include:

  • Dmails (Egypt)- The startup offers a privacy-focused decentralized email provider. It enables users to send secure emails directly from your Gmail.
  • Iris Technologies– This is a Tunisia-based agritech startup that develops and markets intelligent hive service to beekeepers. 
  • Paynas– The Cairo-based cloud platform provides banking, human resources, and payroll services to small businesses. 
  • Singularity Computing– This is an innovative company that provides software and cloud solutions for computational modeling, and product development. It also offers engineering simulation, high-performance computing, and engineering intelligence EI software. The company is based in Algeria. 
  • SysGravity (Egypt): This is a Cybersecurity startup that specializes in endpoints analytics and data migration. 
  • Trella (Egypt): This is a trucking marketplace based in Cairo. The startup’s B2B platform connects shippers and carriers in real-time, and make use of data to optimize drivers’ routes.
  • Bots Factory (Morocco): The startup builds multilingual chatbots that enhance customers’ experience. 
  •  Historio (Tunisia): The company offers a mobile game platform uses augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies. 
  •  Rafiq (Egypt): This is an Arabic virtual assistant Android application.
  •  Baramoda (Egypt): An Agritech startup that develops bio-fertilizers from agricultural waste.
  •  Entaleq (Egypt): This startup enables people with disabilities to find accessible venues and services that best fit their needs through their app. 
  • GreenWatech (Morocco): It developed a low-cost ecological sanitation service for households and communities with no sewer infrastructure.
  • Kashat (Egypt): The startup offers Micro-lending (nano-finance) to small businesses from its app. 

PraxiLabs (Egypt): The Edtech startup developed a 3D virtual science lab that aims to make students understand physics, chemistry and biology experiments.
