Hello,

It’s the Monday edition of the Big 5 Daily!

Bonus alert! Plentywaka has finally unveiled new routes and features. The Lagos-based on-demand bus sharing platform added a scan and ride feature to existing options. They also expanded their routes from CMS-Awoyaya-CMS axis.

The Big 5 proper!

Over 12 African countries experienced slow internet throttle last week. This development was a result of two damaged undersea cables along Africa’s western coast. Telkom SA, Vodacom, MTN Group Ltd., and others were affected.

The Lagos state government has introduced about 5000 drones in a bid to monitor its waterways. In essence, they will leverage this opportunity to protect the lives and properties of commuters on-board.

QuickBus a bus booking platform based in Kenya has secured an undisclosed Seed round. Shorooq Partners a Venture capital firm based in the UAE led the funding round.

Facebook has canceled its plans to display ads on WhatsApp. According to the Wall Street Journal, WhatsApp has disbanded the team in-charge of ads display on the platform.

Finally, the Huawei Business Consumer Group revealed that Huawei shipped 6.9 million units of 5G smartphones in 2019. The company owned 53.9% of the global 5G market in 2019.
