Gebeya, an edtech training platform for software developers, has closed a $2 million funding round. Partech Africa, Orange Digital Ventures and Consonance Investment Managers, participated in the round.
Founded in 2016, the company aims to train and outsource home-based Ethiopian software developers to multinational companies. Gebeya takes these aspiring developers through international software training for four to six months. It aims to establish a pool of talented developers and expand the digital economy of Africa.

Gebeya has graduated over 600 software engineers and connected over one-third of these to international organizations. Some of the graduates have moved on to establish their own companies and to develop world-class products.
In a LinkedIn post, Amadou Daffe, CEO/Co-founder of Gebeya, wrote that the fund is dedicated to technological advancements in Africa. They will use the fund to scale up its training services in Francophone Africa. They will also leverage the fund to launch an online talent marketplace for the continent.
Amadou Daffe, CEO/Co-founder of Gebeya said they aim to bring the sufficient capacity of Africa’s youth to light. In his words, “this investment will enable us to further strengthen the community of top-notch tech talents. It will aslo position Gebeya as the go-to for other companies as well as startups,” he said.
