Big news! Facebook and Google announced Safer Internet Programme for Africa. Facebook partnered with nine Sub-Saharan African NGOs and government agencies to drive awareness of tools and practices to protect online wellbeing. Google launched the Be Internet Awesome Programme in a bid to make the Internet safe for kids in Nigeria, South Africa, and the Netherlands.

Next, Tolaram Group, an Asian Family owned company, has revealed plans to launch digital banking in Africa. The launch is targeted at Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, and Egypt.

Guess what? The Internet connection is now fully restored to the Democratic Republic of Congo. Remember when we reported that a damaged undersea cable caused slow internet throttle across some African countries? Well, DRC was affected for 22 days, but the Internet is back and better.

Also, Khaled Talhouni has launched a $100 million Nuwa Capital fund. The fund is targeted at startups based in the MENA region. The fund will focus on supporting startups across DTC (direct-to-consumer), SaaS (Software as a Service, fintech, mobility and logistics niche.

Finally, a healthtech startup based in Egypt, Vezeeta has secured $40 million series D funding. It will leverage the funding to deepen its services.
