Kenya’s Tourism and Wildlife Ministry has partnered with Facebook to revive the tourism sector post-COVID-19 air travel ban. They launched “Boost with Facebook for the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife,” a digital marketing program for travels and tours affected by the global pandemic.

It is designed to help thousands of these small businesses to use Facebook apps (Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp) to market their businesses.

The Travels and Tourism sector is one of the most badly hit by COVID-19. The sector incurred losses as a result. The Ministry had resolved to work with these industry stakeholders to review the existing National Tourism Policies and respond to the challenges imposed by COVID-19.

Facebook will be implementing the program alongside Wylde International, the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), and the Media Council of Kenya (MCK). The partners will organize webinar sessions to enable participants to identify the business constraints caused by COVID-19.

It will also equip entrepreneurs with the necessary steps to take to survive the pandemic and develop better business strategies. It entails building an online presence on Facebook, storytelling on Instagram, and connecting through Facebook groups and Whatsapp. It will also teach them how to advertise their travels and tours option via paid ads.
