French Telecoms Company- Orange, at AfriTech Festival International Trade Fair, announced the launch of Djoliba, a tech infrastructure that is based primarily on 10,000km of undersea fiber-optic cable network to enable cross-border connectivity between West African countries.

Djoliba technology is the first of its kind to provide high-speed broadband service up to 100 Gbit/s with seamless connectivity and quality service.

This network covers 16 points of presence with a grid of nearly 155 technical sites and connects 300 points of presence in Europe, America, and Asia.

The operations and maintenance activities will also be managed in Dakar at the supervision center for better proximity and greater efficiency. Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, and Senegal are the eight countries covered by the backbone service and the span of coverage will enable access to connectivity for operators and companies.

According to Alioune Ndiaye, Orange CEO for the Middle East and Africa, ” Orange is actively contributing to the development of undersea and terrestrial infrastructure which enable the African continent’s digital transformation, by investing 1 billion euros each year. With Djoliba, local populations will be able to access healthcare or educational services more easily, as well as the applications offered by cloud computing”.

Customers of the Djoliba network will also enjoy access to Orange Group’s platform and variety of offers in Africa like IP transit, mobile service platforms, hosting in Orange data centers in Africa, VPN, etc.
