Bolt, an Uber competitor, has launched its food delivery service, Bolt Food, in Kenya, the third African country to do so after South Africa and Ghana.

The service is now accessible in Parklands, Westlands, Highridge, Spring Valley, Kitisuru, Lavington, South C, South B, Kilimani, Upperhill, and Valley Arcade, according to the start-up.

Bolt, formerly known as Taxify, is entering a crowded European food distribution market.

So far, KFC, Big Square, Pizza Mojo, Urban Gourmet Burger, Debonairs Pizza, Steers, Ohcha Noodle Bar, The Chef House, Wings Kenya Alchemist, Shokudo Japanese, Barista & Co, Mercado, Awash Ethiopian restaurant, Charlie’s Bistro, and Bao Box have partnered with the app, which aims to offer users access to restaurants and menus from the palm of their hands.

“Food delivery has long been a popular request, and we are excited to provide this service to the millions of people who use our platform.

Bolt Food Country Manager Edgar Kipngetich Kitur says, “The infrastructure and expertise we’ve built up with our ride-hailing company gives us a strong platform to grow and diversify our services.”

“We have a long history of disrupting markets, and we will extend that knowledge to our food delivery program, which will include low delivery costs, improved working conditions for our couriers, and a range of our favorite brands. We’re kicking things off with fantastic restaurant deals and free delivery.”

Currently, the service is only available in Nairobi, but Bolt intends to expand it across the country in the near future.
