Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer, has revealed that it will open its first African office in South Africa.

The authorities in Cape Town have announced that the R4 billion River Club will be Amazon’s new home in Africa.

The economy of Cape Town is expected to benefit significantly from this mixed-use growth. The complex’s construction phase would generate 5,239 direct jobs, with an additional 19,000 indirect induced jobs.

“US retail giant, Amazon, will be the anchor tenant, opening a base of operations on the African continent,” according to city officials in Cape City. The plan will be carried out in stages, with construction expected to take three to five years.

It is clear that this development would support the area in many ways, including economic, social, and environmental. We are committed to promoting investment in order to help the economy rebound from the effects of Covid-19.”

The plan is to construct a 150,000 square meter mixed-use space that will be divided into two precincts for commercial and residential uses. A total of 31,900 square meters will be used for residential purposes, according to the developer.

Precinct 1 is a mixed-use building with nearly 60,000 square meters of floor space. Precinct 2 will house Amazon’s office, which will span 70,000 square meters.
