Mobile operator Orange Mali has announced the launch of a 5G pilot in Bamako, the country’s capital.

Orange invites customers to be among the first to try out the new network.

The event was attended by government officials, including Harouna Mamadou Toureh, Minister of Communication, Digital Economy, and Administration Modernization.

The Malian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Information and Communication Technologies, and Posts have all approved the new pilot phase (AMRTP).

These tests are the most recent developments in the operator’s mobile strategy, following the launch of 4G+ services in the country in 2019.

Seven months after testing the technology in Senegal, Orange is now testing 5G in Mali.

“The fifth generation of mobile technology, or 5G technology, will enable us to respond to the explosion in mobile traffic as well as the growing demand for our customers’ needs in terms of connectivity quality,” says Brelotte Ba, CEO of Orange Mali.

“Because 5G is ten times faster than 4G, it allows us to do even more.” It is an infrastructure that will transform Mali’s use of digital technology.”

“It enables the growth of mobile network traffic and remote surgeries using a robot, in addition to facilitating school education and online work. The country is currently experiencing a true technological revolution,” he added.

This development is consistent with Orange Group CEO Stephane Richard’s stated intention to launch 5G across the group’s African markets during the second half of 2021 and 2022.
