Jonga has been announced the winner of the inaugural Santam Safety Ideas Campaign. They have received free incubation and the Stellenbosch University’s LaunchLab for winning the campaign.

Jonga is a security system startup for township residents. So far, they have received ZAR150,000 or $11,260 USD worth of ongoing incubation. There were four finalists chosen to present their ideas to a panel of Santam representatives and investors, with Jonga being the final, top choice.

The campaign saw over 150 total ideas submitted. Only 10 of those 150+ ideas were shortlisted to receive incubation at the LaunchLab.

The purpose of the Santam Safety Ideas Campaign is to requests South Africans to express their innovative thoughts and ideas that are geared towards improving their own safety.

The security system that Jonga has created is cost-effective with the purpose of making home security affordable for everyone. Jonga’s answer contains two parts: a hardware section which is mounted on the wall and a software section which comes in the form of a smartphone app or an SMS notification.

Ntsako Mgiba, co-founder of Jonga, said, ““This initiative is very close to our hearts because we also have families in townships. We are thrilled and grateful to Santam and LaunchLab for believing in our product and making it possible for us to start developing our product so that we can launch our pilot program in various townships.”

Round two applications are now open for the Safety Ideas Campaign. They will be open until September 29th of this year. During the application period, there will be several preliminary workshops held.

The workshops are designed to help potential applicants understand what the campaign is all about before they lock in their decision to take part.
