BioCertica has announced a $1.6 million seed round, following a $650,000 pre-seed round.
Ministry of Programming (MOP), the pre-seed round’s principal investor and technology partner, established and constructed bespoke genetic pipelines tailored to the African market.
MOP previously appeared on the FT1000 list of Europe’s fastest-growing firms.
Polygenic risk score (PRS) is used to generate DNA test results, and the company claims to be the first African-based direct-to-consumer genetics company to do so.
According to PRS results, BioCertica will be able to provide clients with a considerably higher resolution DNA result than previously accessible.
BioCertica is a genetic testing platform that prioritizes user privacy. It was released in August 2020. It uses a purpose-built app available on all major app stores to present a user’s customized genetic results.
Through the BioCertica Practitioners Platform, Gert van Wyk, the company’s founder, and CEO indicated that this technological innovation will enable African healthcare practitioners to acquire better insights into their patients’ DNA.

BioCertica presently offers a variety of lifestyle-based DNA test kits for nutrition and well-being, ancestry, fitness, weight loss, cardiovascular health, skincare, mental health, and other characteristics.
