According to Microsoft, due to antitrust concerns, the company will stop selling its Teams collaboration software as a bundled product with the Office 365 suite globally.

This move builds upon a previous pronouncement from last year that mostly impacted the EU.

By removing Teams from Microsoft Office product offerings, the company hopes to allay some of these concerns.

This action is in response to accusations by competitors like Slack, which is owned by Salesforce, that Microsoft engaged in anticompetitive activities when it included Teams in its Office suite bundles. The European Commission launched an ongoing antitrust inquiry as a result of Slack’s complaint.

Customers can now purchase Teams independently for their business requirements.

It is believed that Microsoft made a calculated strategic decision to separate Teams from Office globally to stave off additional antitrust investigations and preserve a competitive market environment. Microsoft is showing its dedication to openness and fair competition by allowing users to purchase Teams independently. This choice also demonstrates the company’s readiness to adjust to changing legal requirements and respond to criticism from authorities and other businesses.

A Microsoft representative stated that this decision will address customer concerns and take into account input from the European Commission. Additionally, it gives multinational corporations greater freedom to standardize their purchases across several geographic areas.

Microsoft decided to separate Teams from Office in keeping with its goals of improving user experience and increasing customer choice. Microsoft is helping clients choose software solutions that are in line with their business goals and priorities by giving them clear options for software purchases. Microsoft’s dedication to fostering fair competition in the technology sector and guaranteeing that consumers have access to a wide variety of software products and services is further demonstrated by this action. Microsoft is proactively addressing regulatory challenges and fostering a more open and competitive marketplace for collaboration products in response to antitrust concerns.

Customers will be able to customize their software purchases to fit their unique requirements and preferences thanks to the separation of Teams from Office. With this modification, organizations can now select the tools that best meet their needs for communication and collaboration. Additionally, it allows companies to tailor their software solutions to meet their own goals and workflows. With Teams available as a stand-alone product, Microsoft is enabling users to choose their software expenditures effectively.
