We open with Baobabs Network’s announcement that they are now receiving applications for their 2019 Accelerator program. Baobab creates tailor made plans for each and every company they choose and they provide mentorship, global consulting and financial support. The search commences for the 2019 Agropolis Fondation Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food and also, the 2019 Olam Prize for Innovation in Food Security. For the Agropolis Fondation challenge, there are 3 prizes to be given. A grant of £5,000 to the Young Promising Scientist, £20,00 will go to the Distinguished Scientist and £20,000 will also go with the prize for Outstanding Career in Agriculture Development. They will also give a £15,000 funding of scientific mobility to 41 research labs in the Agropolis Fondation’s Scientific network. For the Olam Prize for Innovation in Food Security, the winning research project will be awarded $75,000 in funding. Apply here.
Still on applications, The Innovator Trust in partnership with Cape Innovation Technology Initiative (CiTi) opens its call for growth-stage black-owned ICT firms in the Capetown area for an Intensive enterprise development program that will last 2 years. Submitting applicants must have an annual turnover of less than R50 million, must be trading for more than 2 years, must be 51% black owned and they must have minimum Level 1 to 4 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) status according to the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) ICT Codes. On Wednesday, Khula — which is a platform that helps connect small scale farms together won the South African Chivas Venture 2019 and will travel down to London to compete for $1 million in funding at the Chivas Venture’s Accelerator programme. They will also stand a chance of winning $100,000 if they top an online pole that will be open to the public over the first 3 weeks of April. We wish them all the best.
Finally, Future Females announced that its % Days to Start programme will start 4th of February and will end 8th of February. The program is a five-day challenge that aims to support over 2000 women and bring their ideas to life.
