Instagram checkout, introduced in March 2019 allowed brands to integrate payment on their page. This feature allowed buyers to make payment without leaving Instagram. The tryout feature of the Instagram Checkout was only available for 20 brands only.  Instagram has however announced on the 2nd of May 2019 that the feature will now be available for influencers from next week.

Influencers, artists and celebrities, can tag any piece of clothing that they are wearing so followers can buy that item without ever leaving the Instagram app. The social media app has selected some group of influencers to try out the feature. Influencers like; Aimee Song, Gigi Hadid, Kathleen Lights, Yovanna Ventura, Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian.

The feature is not an avenue for the influencers to make money when they promote an item. However, it is a means to point their users in the direction.

Instagram also announced their intention to introduce a feature that will hide like counts on users’ photos in April 2019. The feature is part of Facebook’s goal to make social media a less ‘pressurized environment’.

Instagram said they are releasing this feature because they want people to worry a little bit less about how many likes they get on Instagram, and a bit more time connecting with people they really care about. The platform announced a beta in Canada. The feature will remove the number of likes for photos and videos, and allow the ‘content poster’ sole access to the amount of likes.
