Telkom SA, a wireline and wireless service provider in South Africa with presence in over 38 African countries, has released its 2018 fiscal report. The telco company released the report on the 27th of May 2019.  The 2018 fiscal year report reveals that people are porting from fixed line internet solutions to fibre and LTE options.

Telkom’s mobile services revenue increased by 58.3%. The report also revealed that Telkom’s active mobile subscribers increased by 85.9% to 9.7 million users due to their affordable data-centric value proposition. Their operating revenue increased by 8.5% to R41.8 billion while EBITDA– Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, increased by 58.3%.

Although Telkom noticed a significant growth, they also incurred some losses as a result of a huge decline in their fixed-broadband subscribers. Their Fiber subscribers, ADSL– asymmetric digital subscriber line and VDSL–Very-high-speed digital subscriber line declined drastically to 847,650 in March 2019 as against 981,176 in March 2018.

Their fixed line-line subscriber base also fell to 2,267,000 from 2,678,000 between March 2018- March 2019. Telkom’s growth has been declining since 2016 when it grew above a million subscribers. That growth has declined to just 800,000 and is likely to fall further.
