Autochek, a Nigerian automotive company, announced that it has purchased Cheki Kenya and Cheki Uganda from Ringier One Africa Media (ROAM) for an unspecified sum.

After successfully acquiring Cheki Nigeria and Ghana as part of its West African launch, Autochek has now entered into an agreement with ROAM Africa to buy Cheki Kenya and Cheki Uganda, as part of its intentions to grow further into the African market.

Cheki began operating in Nigeria in 2010 as an online vehicle classified for dealers, importers, and private sellers. The Lagos-based business has expanded its reach to Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

“The acquisition of Cheki Kenya and Uganda is a major milestone for us, and we are excited to be working with ROAM Africa once again, building on their achievements over the past years,” stated Etop Ikpe, Founder and CEO of Autochek.

“Across the world, we see a new generation of digital automotive platforms, demanding significant specialization,” says Clemens Weitz, CEO of ROAM Africa.
Autochek, in particular, we feel, has the strongest staff and skills in Africa to actually deliver a game-changing consumer experience.
Our Cheki team has created a one-of-a-kind, market-leading brand as well as a truly outstanding company. Most importantly, I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone on the team who contributed to our achievement.”

Cheki Kenya has 700,000 monthly users and lists more than 12,000 automobiles. It also claims to have expanded by 80% year over year in the last two years, making it an important part of Autochek’s regional expansion strategy.
