Nigerian on-demand delivery startup Chowdeck has acquired Nairobi‑born POS platform Mira, marking a bold expansion beyond logistics into full-stack technology services for restaurants, supermarkets, and pharmacies across Africa. The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed.
Mira a one-year-old restaurant POS and management system founded by former Flutterwave design lead Ted Oladele powers more than 500 hospitality businesses, offering tools for sales tracking, inventory management, kitchen monitoring, QR-code ordering, and customer engagement. Its integrated hardware is priced at approximately ₦360,000 per terminal.
By incorporating Mira’s capabilities, Chowdeck aims to address operational inefficiencies common in African food businesses—such as stockouts and inventory mismanagement—and deliver more intelligent, integrated solutions to its vendor network.
Chowdeck, launched in 2021, currently boasts over 1.5 million users, more than 20,000 riders, and Operations across 11 Nigerian cities and Accra, Ghana.
These metrics come from major investor backing including Y Combinator, and its recent $2.5M seed round.
CEO Femi Aluko emphasized the shift:
“For a long time, we’ve focused more on the customer side… But as we begin to expand, we’re paying deeper attention to the vendor side.”
Following the acquisition, Mira’s CEO Ted Oladele joins Chowdeck as Head of Product, bringing key team members aboard. Their transition positions Chowdeck to scale new vendor-facing solutions across its logistics operations.
With Mira integrated, Chowdeck can tap into new service lines such as POS hardware and subscriptions, merchant-level insights, online and in-store order orchestration
Chowdeck analysts argue this move creates a competitive moat against peers like Glovo, Vendease, and local delivery platforms by vertically integrating operational tools with logistics.
Chowdeck’s acquisition of Mira repositions it from being a consumer-facing logistics provider to a central technology partner for food and hospitality operators in Africa. This strategic integration builds trust, unlocks margins, and deepens enterprise-level engagement—fostering long-term vendor loyalty and enabling monetization beyond delivery fees.
