Bboxx, a London-based cleantech company that delivers clean energy in Africa, has reportedly paid $200 million for PEG Africa, another cleantech startup based in Accra.
Mansoor Hamayun, Christopher Baker-Brian, and Laurent Van Houcke launched Bboxx in 2010 with the goal of bringing electricity to African homes through a cost-effective pay-as-you-go renewable energy source.
Hugh Whalan and Nate Heller started PEG Africa in 2013 to achieve the same thing Bboxx set out to do: give a pay-as-you-go alternative to energy to over 700 million Africans without it.
The company began in Ghana and has now extended to Mali, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast.
Bboxx is currently active in seven African nations and has just raised $50 million in a Series D round.
PEG Africa has serviced over 2 million people and raised more than $65 million in funding.
