Techies are you ready? The Agence Française de Développement (AFD) has called on startups to apply for the 2019 AFD Digital Africa Challenge. Application is open to startups working on projects that promote the development of sustainable cities in Africa. Before it closes on the 18th of November 2019, apply.
Drum roll! Doctoora a Nigeria-based healthech startup has emerged winner of the #NES25 (25th National Economic Summit) Startups Pitch Competition. The startup which aims to create healthier communities in Africa won the cash prize of N5 million.
Have you heard? South Africa’s third-biggest telco, Cell C is set to sell its business assets over a R9 billion ($596 million) debt. The telco plans to sell its fibre-optic network and its billed customer base. It is alleged that Vodacom, Telkom SA, and the MTN group have indicated interest in buying the assets.
Also, Villgro Kenya has revealed plans to fund health-tech innovations in East Africa. They will leverage the funds to sponsor the production of tech-enabled medical devices on the continent. Interested startups should click here.
Finally, Net1 UEPS Technologies a South African-based fintech company is set to acquire a major stake of Bank Frick, a Liechtenstein financial institution. This move will help expand its fintech, payments and blockchain services.
