OceanHub Africa, an impact accelerator located in Cape Town, is calling on impact-for-profit startups focusing on protecting and restoring ocean health to apply for a six-month online acceleration program this year.
Alexis Grosskopf and Stéphanie Canac, co-founders of OceanHub, offer insight into the significance of supporting ocean-conscious and sustainable startups in a press release.
According to co-founders of OceanHub Africa Alexis and Stéphanie, “We believe it is up to enterprises to make the necessary changes and to us to promote more ocean-conscious innovative enterprises: innovations led by science, technology and entrepreneurship will provide the necessary leverage points to meet the SDGs [Sustainable Development Goals] with the right pace and scale.”
Only the most disruptive and impact-driven startups focused on creating an environmentally conscious and profitable ocean economy will be chosen for the prestigious accelerator beginning in April 2021.
With input from the partner resources of OceanHub and a highly qualified network of stakeholders, the program will assist participating startups to scale up their current business model. In addition, mentorship and guidance that requires one-on-one business instruction and personal development skills will be provided to participants.
The accelerator’s other advantages include investor pitching and access to a broad portfolio of impact investors who are part of the ocean-focused ecosystem.
The following conditions must be met by interested applicants:
* An ocean-oriented start-up with a direct or indirect positive effect on the ocean by either solving or offering tangible solutions to climate change, pollution or ocean overexploitation.
* A for-profit and operational organization in Africa
* The startup must have a scalable service or product readily available for marketing or soon to be available.
* The result of the startup is imaginative and adopts a disruptive business model
* Looking to enter new markets and investments.
The Accelerator Program application began on 25 January 2021 and ends on 5 March 2021.
