Launched by Shady Mokhtar and Reem Abdellaftif in 2017, Opio an Egyptian startup is a daily women’s wear brand directly to the market. The startup has raised US$300,000 in seed funding to expand its operations, capitalizing on the long-abandoned Egyptian apparel industry and the increase in demand for online shopping.
The platform commissions white label and toll manufacturing to various producers of women’s wear apparel and delivers it through its digital platform to its customer base.
We have shown that a value proposition can be built that can comfortably compete with foreign brands. Egypt is full of talent in architecture and innovation. We are optimistic that we can easily add a strong mark to the local and regional online fashion market by continuously concentrating on customer experience,” said Abdellaftif, the creative director of Opio.
AUC Angels manager Mariam Kamel said Opio was very sensitive to consumer trends, both in terms of how it communicates with its clientele and how it responds to changes caused by recent developments in shopping experience digitalization.
