Innovex, a start-up based in Uganda that allows pay as you go (PAYG) and remote monitoring for solar companies, has closed a round of seed funding to help expand its business throughout Africa.

Established in 2016 by Douglas Baguma and David Tusubira, Innovex has created Remot, a cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) solution that enables solar companies, EPCs and distributors to remotely track and control their energy systems by transforming the delivery of off-grid solar energy systems and equipment using digital tools.

Innovex has been working with companies with solar systems installed in entities such as health centers, schools and rural farms throughout Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ethiopia, and is now planning to scale this up after raising an undisclosed amount of funds from the Gaia Impact Fund.

The funding will be used by Innovex to scale up Remot to 100 solar distributors across Africa, allowing three million people to access solar energy by 2023.
