Plentywaka, a Nigerian bus-booking platform, has been accepted into the Techstars Toronto accelerator program, the company announced.

It will join nine other startups in the 2021 class and receive support from the accelerator as it plans to expand globally.

Following its admission into Techstars, PlentyWaka’s Managing Director and Cofounder, Johnny Enagwolor, says the company intends to launch an interstate operation in Nigeria.

Plentywaka CEO Onyeka Akumah also stated that the bus-hailing startup plans to begin its global expansion in Canada by Q4 2021, thanks to new funding from Techstars.

Last year, the company raised $300,000 in pre-seed funding from its parent company, EMFATO Holdings, as well as other early-stage investors Microtraction and Niche Capital.

According to CEO Akumah, Plentywaka launched in September 2019 and moved an average of six people a day in the first two months.

This figure had risen to about 1,500 people a day by the sixth month, and the company had completed more than 100,000 rides in that period.
