The young tech genius and inventor- Kevin Doe also known as DJ Focus takes our Spotlight today. He hails from Freetown, Sierra leone, and began inventing at the age of 10 years.
He is known for his iconic inventions from scrap electronic parts to create working batteries, an FM transmitter, a sound amplifier, a three-channel mixer, and a microphone receiver without any form of prior professional training or engineering background.
Using his own FM transmitter, he also created his local radio station to play music from which the name “DJ Focus” was derived and created a generator to power the same.
As a self-taught African kid-inventor, he rose to the limelight in 2012 and has since earned him the opportunity to appear on TEDxTeen. He also engages with renowned educators, the private sector, world leaders, leading global visionaries, and international NGOs.
He is also a recipient of multiple awards including the Presidential Gold Medal and is also the youngest person to participate in the Visiting Practitioner’s Program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
He moved to Canada in 2017 to complete his high school while at the same time developing the Kevin Doe foundation for which he says the goal is to “ignite innovation and inspire civic engagement” by providing creative “maker” spaces in Sierra Leone.
