Big news! Temie Giwa-Tubosun of LifeBank has been announced the winner of Jack Ma Foundation Africa Netpreneur Prize Initiative (ANPI) prize. The LifeBank founder was awarded a cash prize of $250,000 and also named Africa’s Business Hero.
Have you heard? Three African startups; Crop2Cash, Lentera Africa, and Acquahmeyer, has emerged regional finalists of Innov8Agric Challenge— a pitch competition meant for agritech startups that apply creative and innovative methods to boost the agricultural value chain.
Guess what? In a series B funding that was backed by Chinese investors, African focused fintech company OPay has secured $120 million. The fintech company will leverage the funds to scale its services in Nigeria and expand its product to Kenya, Ghana and South Africa.
Also, MTN South Africa and Cell-C have signed a new roaming service agreement, this is in a bid to expand Cell-C’s network access. Cell-C will leverage this agreement to roam on MTN’s network across South Africa.
Finally, Instagram has announced that it will be expanding its ‘hide like counts’ feature to more users globally. The feature will curtail popularity contest and promote mental health. Initially limited to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand, the feature is now available globally.
