Zandile Keebine is a co-founder and Chair of GirlCode, one of Africa’s leading digital innovation organizations that aims to empower young girls and women interested in technology and enhance their skills in the tech industry.
Prior to founding GirlCode, Ms. Keebine worked with Johannesburg Centre of Engineering Coachlab and Boxfusion, a software development firm. Initiatives powered by GirlCode include the GirlCoder club that holds free monthly nationwide coding sessions and GirlCode Digital literacy that provides women with little or no computer skills introductory course to basic computer and internet literacy.
The very few numbers of female participants in technology industry events and intimidating male dominance during such events inspired the birth of the initiative.
This led to the very first female-only hackathon that birthed GirlCode.
This supposed one-time event of then has since evolved into a platform for continuous engagement with technically savvy women and provides mentorship from women working in various IT sector roles, holds all-female monthly hackathons.
