The Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Nairobi has opened an incubation center funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to promote innovation development, market linkages, and technology transfer.
The PAUSTI Incubation Centre of Excellence was established to encourage and foster academic innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and private-sector collaboration.
To encourage innovation and entrepreneurship across the continent, it will attempt to speed the application of research and development through technology and partnerships with the private sector.
“We are ecstatic to be launching the PAUSTI Incubation CoE since it marks the start of a movement. A movement that will transform Africa, where we will develop indigenous solutions to indigenous problems. “We believe that given the proper skills and conditions, Africa’s youth can be incubated to produce new ideas that would revolutionize the continent,” said Uyoyo Edosio, the AfDB’s lead ICT for development expert.
The PAUSTI CoE will serve as the backbone of the university’s development plan, encouraging a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
The center will endeavor to promote economic growth, job creation, industrialization, and PAUSTI students’ access to critical business information, knowledge, networks, and financial investments.
PAUSTI students will have access to a global network of accelerators, incubators, mentors, investors, and corporate partners through the incubation center, which will be set up and operationalized by iHub.
They will also get the opportunity to participate in design thinking workshops and innovation challenges, CV clinics, entrepreneurship masterclasses, pre-incubation, and incubation programs, and trips to innovation hubs and enterprises, among other activities.
