Visa, one of the world’s largest payments company, has named Maurice Newa as the new Managing Director of the Southern Africa cluster.
Newa will be in charge of developing and implementing Visa’s growth plan in Southern Africa as the regional lead.
He will be a member of the Sub-Saharan Africa Leadership team and report to Aida Diarra, Senior Vice President and Head of Sub-Saharan Africa.
Maurice Newa was the Chief Executive Officer of Vaya Technologies Limited, an Econet Group subsidiary, before joining Visa. He previously worked at Econet Wireless Zimbabwe as the Chief Business Development Officer.
Maurice started his career as the Chief Operating Officer of Mobile Telecoms Company (MTC) Namibia in 2010. In 2011, he joined Safaricom as Director of Marketing Strategy and Customer Care, before joining Bharti Airtel in Malawi as Deputy Managing Director and Executive Board Director in 2012.
From 2014 to 2016, Maurice served as Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Nigeria before joining Econet Telecom in Lesotho as Chief Commercial Officer and Turnaround Strategist.
He has over 25 years of experience in mobile telephony, Fintech (mobile money and mobile insurance), digital technology solutions, and blue-chip FMCG businesses in regional and global positions.
Maurice Newa is a Fellow of the Institute of Marketing Management and holds a Bachelors in Social Science degree in Economics, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting. He has also studied leadership, strategy growth, and management at INSEAD, London Business School, and Harvard Business School.
