Over the course of 2021 and 2022, YouTube will pay YouTube Shorts creators for their most watched and entertaining content through the YouTube Shorts Fund, a $100 million fund. Every month, YouTube will contact creators whose videos have reached certain benchmarks to encourage them for their efforts, support, and inspiration.

This can be a huge benefit for Shorts content, as well as more incentive for YouTube stars to post to Shorts instead of TikTok.

YouTube says the new fund will launch in the coming months, and it will take input from creators to create a long-term YouTube Shorts program.

Other features added to Shorts since its launch include caption support, the ability to record up to 60 seconds with the Shorts camera, the ability to add clips from your phone’s gallery to your recordings made with the Shorts camera, and the ability to use simple filters to color correct images. More effects are on the way, according to YouTube.

In addition to the new Shorts Fund, YouTube has announced several new features for Shorts as the service continues to grow.

In just under six months, Snapchat paid out over $90 million through the Spotlight initiative, which now has over 125 million users.

More information about the payments and requirements will be known prior to the fund’s launch, which is expected in the coming months, according to YouTube.

It also noted that over the last three years, it has paid out more than $30 billion to creators, artists, and media companies, and that it expects the new fund to assist in the creation of a long-term monetization model for Shorts on YouTube in the future.
