Google has announced that all Google Photos users will have free access to a number of its generative AI-powered picture editing tools.
Among the AI capabilities available in Google Photos are Magic Eraser, which eliminates undesired objects from images, Photo Unblur, which sharpens out-of-focus images, and Portrait Light, which may adjust the lighting in a photo.
According to a blog post by the firm, AI-powered editing functions that were previously exclusive to Pixel phones and Google One cloud storage subscription services will now be available to a wider audience starting on May 15 and continuing for many weeks.
According to Google, the extension will also make those functions available on new devices, such as Pixel tablets. According to Google, people using its operating system on a desktop computer must have a Chromebook Plus running ChromeOS version 118+ or have at least 3GB of RAM. people using a mobile device must have iOS 15 or Android 8.0 installed.
The Magic Editor tool, which debuted with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro last autumn, creates new imagery to fill in the blanks in photos by using generative AI to perform various photo modifications including shifting subjects, eliminating objects, or altering the color of the sky.
Google is also expanding the availability of its Magic Editor function to all Pixel smartphones starting next month. The statement states that every Google Photos user on iOS and Android will receive 10 Magic Editor photo saves each month. Users using Pixel devices and Google One premium members with a 2TB storage plan will enjoy limitless saves.
