When it launches in 2023, Motional will let passengers get to their destinations via the Lyft app in a Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV with a driverless feature and let them exit their vehicle by sending a push notification.

Integrated with Motional’s autonomous vehicle technology, the purpose-built vehicle is put together by Hyundai and contains a full complement of sensors, including a lidar, radar, and camera setup that can be seen throughout the cabin and exterior.

Motional’s website explains that this sensing technology delivers a 360-degree view, along with the ability to see up to 300 meters distant.

Karl Iagnemma, president and CEO of the business that was formed through a $4 billion partnership with Aptiv and Hyundai, stated in a recent interview that the company is actively showing off the many sensors.

The ground floor of Motional’s robotaxi is the Hyundai Ioniq 5, an electric car with a delivery date slated for later this year that was unveiled in February.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the first model to be built on the automaker’s Electric Global Modular Architecture, a specialized battery electric vehicle platform (E-GMP).

The riders can interact with the car while in the robotaxi by asking the vehicle to make a stop or other actions, as stated by the corporation.

The location of the company’s first driverless robotaxi service has not been confirmed.
