The first international AWS Skills Center was launched by Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Cape Town, South Africa, as part of its ongoing effort to lower the barriers to enrollment in cloud skills training.

In addition to sites in Seattle and Arlington, Virginia, Cape Town is the third AWS Skills Center to open.

The AWS Skills Centers are Amazon’s specialized, on-site cloud learning facilities created for anyone interested in learning about cloud computing, potential career paths within the sector, and how to develop the skills necessary to advance their professional aspirations.

No matter their background, level of education, or social standing, anyone in the community is welcome to learn more about how cloud computing technology is used to power everything from weather forecasts to smart homes.

AWS welcomed local community leaders, educational partners, officials from the government, and job seekers to visit the facility as part of the official opening ceremony and learn more about how the cloud is affecting their daily lives.

Each center offers a variety of free and public cloud training courses as well as career exploration activities.

Every space is intended to draw visitors in by exhibiting the various applications of cloud computing, such as robotics and weather forecasting.

Visitors take part in a variety of entertaining and interactive experiences to learn.

The brand-new facility in Cape Town is enhancing community transformation initiatives and worker development programs.

One of the main goals is to level the playing field by offering free education programs to nontechnical professionals, which will assist in meeting the increasing demand for qualified cloud talent.

Since 2017, AWS has taught over 100,000 employees in South Africa cloud skills, enabling intake on the growing demand for cloud expertise.
