In a remarkable showcase of innovation, three Francophone African startups have emerged victorious in the 2025 Orange Summer Challenge, a prestigious accelerator program aimed at transforming entrepreneurial ideas into impactful businesses. The winners were announced at an award ceremony held on February 20, 2025, in Casablanca, Morocco.

First Prize: Plastikoo (Madagascar)

Plastikoo secured the top honor with its innovative approach to environmental sustainability. The startup specializes in converting plastic waste into durable construction materials, effectively addressing pollution and promoting sustainable development within local communities.

Second Prize: MEPS (Tunisia)

MEPS clinched the second spot with its IoT-integrated solution designed to tackle organic waste. The technology transforms organic waste into clean biogas and fertilizer, contributing significantly to the energy transition and environmental preservation.

Third Prize: Leevlong (Cameroon)

Leevlong took third place with its medical device that enables real-time monitoring of vital signs. This innovation enhances patient care by providing continuous health data, thereby improving healthcare delivery.

Program Overview

The 2025 Orange Summer Challenge attracted 282 young entrepreneurs from 14 countries, all vying under the theme “Tech4Impact.” Participants underwent intensive training, mentoring, and coaching provided by experts from Orange and its partners, including AWS, EY, and Nokia. The program culminated in the development of 57 startups addressing pressing challenges in sectors such as environment, health, education, and agriculture.

Support and Recognition

The winning startups are set to receive comprehensive support, including financial grants, technical assistance, and commercial guidance. Nokia has pledged €40,000 to aid the pre-incubation and incubation phases of the winning projects, while Orange will provide an additional €20,000 to empower the young innovators behind these solutions.

Brelotte Ba, Deputy CEO of Orange Africa and the Middle East, expressed pride in the program’s impact, stating, “For 15 years, the Orange Summer Challenge has accompanied thousands of young talents in their entrepreneurial journey. This new edition once again illustrates the capacity of African and Middle Eastern youth to innovate and respond to the societal challenges of our continent.”

The success of these startups not only highlights the entrepreneurial spirit thriving in Africa but also underscores the continent’s potential as a hub for technological innovation and sustainable development.
