The United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) has launched the Agritech Challenge in collaboration with Atal Innovation Mission, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Rabo Foundation.
The initiative aims to address smallholder farmers’ concerns about climate change, productivity, and supply chains.
The same holds true for collaboration with international partners Bayer and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
The UNCDF’s challenge will also enable cross-border collaborations among emerging markets in India, Indonesia, Malawi, Malaysia, Kenya, Uganda and Zambia.
“As we enter the recovery phase, it is critical that the global financial architecture ramps up its support to accelerate achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in frontier markets,” said UNCDF Executive Secretary Preeti Sinha. She went on to say that the UNCDF has a unique role to play in supporting innovative solutions that can help those who are most at risk of falling behind, particularly small-holder farmers in last-mile markets. “Digital transformation has the potential to be a key enabler of recovery and resilience,” Sinha said.
This Program seeks applications from start-ups with solutions to at least one of the three aforementioned challenges.

- Inefficient Supply Chains – Reduce wastage and enhance market & pricing transparency
