T-Mobile has revealed that it was the victim of a data hack that purportedly affected 100 million of its wireless users.
T-Mobile confirmed the hack but stated that it had “not yet identified that any sensitive customer data is involved.” The corporation stated that its inquiry would “take some time,” but no timetable was provided.
According to the reports, the data includes Social Security numbers, geographical addresses, and IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers that individually identify individual mobile devices.
T-Mobile first stated in a statement that it was actively investigating the issues raised.
“We are sure that the entry point used to gain access has been closed,” the company said. “We are continuing our detailed technical assessment of the situation throughout our systems to discover the nature of any data that was illegally accessed.”
This is the third data breach to affect the cellphone carrier in recent years. T-Mobile disclosed a data incident in 2018 that could have exposed customer information such as email addresses and phone numbers.
One year later, the carrier revealed a “criminal hack” of customer data that disclosed personal information such as names, billing addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, and wireless plans.
