Facebook said that it is introducing Facebook Shops to WhatsApp as well as Facebook Marketplace in the United States.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, announced that tailored advertisements based on users’ buying habits would be added to the company’s Shops service.

Facebook claimed it has more than 300 million monthly Shops visitors and around 1.2 million monthly active Shops.

Shops was established last year as a tool for consumers to browse and buy things on Facebook and Instagram as part of the company’s push into ecommerce.

Users shopping on Instagram will be able to click on products and identify comparable products in Shops using artificial intelligence called ‘visual search,’ which will be tested in the coming months.

Users will be able to use this search from within the app or from their own camera rolls, according to Zuckerberg.

Facebook is also developing ways for buyers to try on things from adverts using augmented reality, according to the company.

E-commerce, along with augmented and virtual reality research and helping content creators make money on Facebook’s platforms, is one of the company’s three main areas of focus, according to Zuckerberg.
