MTN, a telecommunications company, has created MTN Online School, a free online platform that will provide a digital curriculum for students in grades R through 12.
The online school, which has been approved by the Department of Basic Education, will include video courses, evaluations, and extra-tuition sessions for students in Grades 10 to 12.
It will also focus on financial skills, entrepreneurship, arts and culture, and career advisory information, with an emphasis on important careers in South Africa where there are skills shortages.
Video courses with a sign language interpreter will be one of the important advances to accommodate deaf students.
The portal provides an introduction to the early childhood development curriculum as well as African storytelling, which comprises over 2,000 stories to help children develop strong reading abilities and gain confidence so they may study and read independently.
MTN said the platform will deliver a comprehensive content library over a three-year period, focusing on essential issues.
MTN South Africa CEO Godfrey Motsa stated, “Our goal is to empower the youth to acquire educational essentials to confront the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in a manner that allows them to access future opportunities.”
