Uber has announced the introduction of two new electric modes of transportation. In Kenya, UberBoda, Uber Connect, and Uber Eats drivers use electric boda bodas and bicycles.
This is the first time Uber has expanded into Sub-Saharan Africa.
The cost of an electric UberBoda ride would be the same as a normal ride.
“We’re doing our part to help Kenyans participate in reducing carbon emissions by transforming mobility in the region. Uber is always searching for new ways to boost the consumer experience, and it is our duty to invest in product technologies that benefit cities. Brian Njao, Uber’s Head of East Africa, said, “We believe this partnership will do just that.”

Kenyans will be able to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions as a result of this. Uber is still searching for new ways to enhance its customer service. We owe it to cities to invest in product developments that improve their quality of life. We are confident that this partnership will achieve that goal.”
“Uber Eats has exploded in popularity in Kenya, with the app now available in Mombasa, Nakuru, and Nairobi, resulting in more delivery drivers on the road. According to Nadeem Anjarwalla, General Manager of Uber Eats in Kenya, providing electric Boda Bodas to delivery people will dramatically reduce transportation emissions.”
The introduction of electric boda reduces total costs by 45 percent for UberBoda and Uber Connect drivers, whose most important operational expense is diesel.
The boda boda industry in Kenya employs over 1.6 million young people, the vast majority of whom are based in Nairobi.
Although the path to zero emissions is long, I must begin somewhere. In light of this, Uber is leading the charge in Kenya to introduce electric boda bodas and bicycles.
