The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, Volvo’s first all-electric vehicle, will debut in South Africa in the second half of 2021.
The XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, according to Greg Maruszewski, managing director of Volvo Car South Africa, can cover more than 400 kilometers on a single charge.
The car can be charged at a dealership, at home, or at one of the rapidly expanding network of public charging stations.

Also, the absence of an internal combustion engine, according to Volvo, frees up space under the front bonnet for a 30-litre storage compartment.
While the batteries are placed in the middle of the vehicle, ensuring that space is not compromised elsewhere.
Further more, Volvo also announced that it is expanding its network of charging stations at its dealerships.
With each Volvo dealership having a charging station by the end of 2021.
The XC40 is the first of five fully electric vehicles that Volvo will introduce over the next five years.
“Volvo Cars will release a fully all-electric vehicle vehicle every year.
With the goal of making all-electric vehicles responsible for 50% of global sales by 2025, with the rest being hybrids.
“All chargeable Volvos with a fully electric and plug-in hybrid powertrain will be classified as Recharge,” Maruszewski said.
Moreover, the introduction of the XC40 Recharge is a major move toward Volvo Cars’ goal of reducing CO2 emissions per vehicle by 40% by 2025.
