LinkedIn Local Lagos: Taking the Online Connection Offline

LinkedIn Local is the offline side to the application, designed to convert online connection into long-lasting business relationships. The first edition in Lagos was a masterclass held on March 2nd, 2018. It was hosted by Ayodeji Babatunde, Lead Business Strategist/Founder Outliers HCD Consulting.

The second edition, LinkedIn Local Lagos 2.0 held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 at Radisson Blu Anchorage Hotel. This time around, the event was put together by Kayode Abass and Joel Pereyi. The program started off with a Keynote speech by Prof. Ndubuisi Ekekwe, Chairman Fasmicro Group. He spoke about “Discovering Your Passion & Mission Accumulation of Capabilities.  It was an insightful session during which he gave a 3-step approach towards executing your capabilities, hinged on his personal experience. A question and answer session followed immediately he rounded up his speech. Shortly after, a short break, a panel session was set up. The panelist includes Onyeka Onyema – CEO Farmcrowdy, Deji Oduntan –Co-founder – Gokada, Obi Ozor – Co-founder Kobo360 and Mohammed Ibrahim Jega, Co-founder of Voguepay. They all shared their individual experiences on “How We Made it in Nigeria”. All experiences shared had one thing in common—they all started small, built connections overtime and believed in their individual vision.

After the usual question and answer session for the panelists, there was another short break before a final panel session. The theme of the session was “The Global Executive: Get Skilled, Get Paid, Rise Fast”. The professionals on the panel were Odunayo Sanya – G.M, MTN Nigeria, Lampe Omoyele – Managing Director, NITRO, Patricia Obezuwa – Chief Communicator and Public Affairs Officer, GE Africa and Dayo Obisan – Managing Director, Greenwich Asset Management. These business experts took turns to explain how they successfully climbed the corporate ladder in Nigeria.

The LinkedIn Local Lagos 2.0 turned out successful. It is an awesome event that not only brings the online community offline, it also teaches young executives how to achieve career fulfillment. It presented an opportunity to ask direct questions, network and form long-lasting relationships that could eventually lead to more opportunities in the future.
