Hollaport a new innovation by Alhaji Kabiru Rabiu, the Group Executive Director of BUA Group a Nigerian Conglomerate, had its media launch on the 6th of July 2019. The event held at Zone Tech park Gbagada saw the unveiling of Hollaport – a messaging and financial technology platform that allows consumers to send and receive money through their phone contacts in Nigeria and Africa.
During the event that housed top tech enthusiasts in the country, the General Manager of Hollaport, Mr. Michael Olowojesiku, walked the audience through a live demonstration of the app. He invited a contact from his phone for a chat on the platform (Let’s call this contact Mr X). Mr X, who already has the Hollaport app, joined the chat and they both conversed. During the chat, Mr X requested that money be transferred to him. Mr. Olowojesiku proceeded to his Hollaport wallet and sent the money to him after keying in the desired amount. Hollaport works as simple as that.
It is very evident that financial Inclusion is a major issue in Nigeria, considering that more than half of Nigeria’s population are unbanked and only a few of the banked practice digitized banking. Hollaport Technologies hopes to leverage this opportunity to bridge the gap of financial inclusion in Nigeria.
They aim to offer financial services as well as give the consumers a platform to connect socially with their contacts. Over 85% of Nigerians own mobile devices, about 103 million have active internet subscriptions, and a large percentage of this data size have a presence on social media. Hollaport leverages this fact to not only bridge the gap of financial inclusion but also keep their consumers connected.
Through Hollaport one can buy airtime, pay for cable, electricity, and data. The app also offers paycode services – a technology that enables recipient withdraws cash from an ATM without the need to have a card or bank account. The Hollaport mobile wallet can be funded from an existing bank account.
