BuuPass a B2B2C full-stack marketplace has raised $1.3 million in pre-seed funding to enable operators with a bus management system (BMS) to manage their operations, inventory, and sales.
Founders Factory Africa, FrontEnd Ventures, Adaverse, Gullit, Five35, Renew Capital, Changecom, XA Network, Ajim Capital, Artha Ventures, Daba Finance, Google Black Founders Fund, and a number of angel investors provided the funding.
The Kenyan startup has been operating successfully since 2016, and it now intends to expand to neighboring Uganda and possibly even further afield.
BuuPass is a B2B2C full-stack marketplace that offers a bus management system (BMS) to operators so that they can better oversee their daily operations, inventory, and revenue. It then links them to its marketplace, where customers can browse, compare, and purchase tickets through a variety of platforms, including websites, mobile apps, and USSD codes.
“With a focus on Kenya and Uganda, the funding will allow us to invest in expansion strategies that will increase our market share in East Africa. Our goal is to establish a pan-African infrastructure for long-distance travel, therefore we will hire a team, particularly on the growth side, and technical specialists to help us build systems for scale,” said co-CEO Sonia Kabra, who founded BuuPass with Wycliffe Omondi in 2016.
According to the company, over 9 million tickets have been sold to date, processing 12,000 transactions per day across all of its booking platforms.
The business’s gross merchandise value in 2022 was just over $30 million.
